I beleieve that the common aspirin tablets as dispensed by the chemist contain the same compounds that are in rooting hormone. So dissolve a an asprin tablet in some water and hey presto you have your hormone rooting compound

If aspirin is dissolved in the water and used in the vases for cut flowers indoors,they remain fresh for a longer duration.May be it will work as a rooting hormone.No harm in giving it a try.Never used any rooting hormone before.

Khan sahab you are right about aspirin tablets that they help remain the vase flowers live longer. It is not because of aspirin itself but aspirin decomposes into something else (salicylic acid) in water which helps the flowers to stay fresh.

Ifzal sahab, your intuition is right at the spot! Salicylic acid is the beast that does the magic. It is also a plant hormone but probably not as effective as commercial products such as IBA (indole butyric acid).

Aloe Vera gel is another alternative that is an effective rooting agent. It actually works as well as if not better than commercially purchased rooting hormone powder

If you have particularly difficult to root plant cuttings then please try to incorporate a quantity of sphagnum moss as that contains many naturally occurring antifungal compounds thus giving the cuttings extra time to generate rooting before any fungus rot sets in

Aloe Vera is kuargandal and sphagnum moss is usually plentifull at the kooh or water well side walls

Very interesting discussion. Not necessary but buy the strongest rooting powder out there and use it! No harm I heard and likely some benefit for cuttings which will supposedly root quicker and also have some anti fungal effect.

I have a Strong passion and belief in organic farming and gardening techniques. It has always been my aim to use and share the knowledge of these natural methods first and foremost.

We in Pakistan have a vast and nowadays untapped resource for locally sourced products that are in harmony with our plants, environment and our well being. ( more cost effective too) it's a resource that is quickly being forgotten and lost forever.

We should endeavour to share and use these proven methods before turning to the commercial pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers. Many of which by the way are banned in most European countries due to proof of their harmful and lethal side effects on human beings, plants and wildlife.

Ifzal I whole heartedly agree with you. It's just that if you love roses and hibiscus then you will end up using pesticides. These newer hybridized plants don't behave like heirlooms so are not disease resistant. However, please make another post and share your knowledge regarding which organic compound in which way can be used to kill which bugs? There are extensive threads on home made remedies over the year or two on the forum and maybe a very helpful and active admin member can take the trouble of concentrating that in one knowledge post???

Guys i bought a rooting hormone yesterday. They r organic and cheap and available in lahore. Go to either pride seeds on hussain chowk or visit city seeds on main liberty round about. Its in the basement of city plaza. Good luck. Therez a pack for 200, a pack for 700 and another expensive one.

Could u tell me the quantity in volume of Rs.200 and Rs.700? Plz

The one thats for 200 dznt say wat quantity it contains tho its quite small. About a 20g or so. But iu hav to mix it with water to form a paste which is to b used. The one thats for 700 is organic and is a 50g pack available from pride seeds.
