i have a papaya tree, one male and one feMALE both growing together.the female plant tree's upper and new leaves which are coming are twisted and somewhat blackened.plus the leaves underneath are turning yellow and falling off.the tree has fruit on it about 6-7 papayas on it. one thing to mention too is that there are about 5 plants of papaya growing side by side as this is not a healthy distance b/w them, very close together.one is female the one diseased of which i am talking about and all the rest are male.
plus one more question, what is the average no of fruit on a papaya tree?
there are some pictures of that treee underneath.

It needs fertilizer, its giving all the energy in fruits... take out all the male trees..

Please leave one.

if all males are removed how will the female fruit next time.so leave one or two males.

Male speaking against male plants...this is not fair :!:

lolz... this is from my observation.. for my relatives and neighbors, i have always removed the male papaya and the females still producing fruits which are most of the time seedless (parthenocarpy)..
another thing is that sometimes the male papaya start producing the fruits too.. so you can keep one... nearly all the houses in the residential society i reside have 2-3 papaya trees, all females and producing fruits..

The papaya trees producing fruits are hermaphrodite plants. I am not sure if a male papaya can become hermaphrodite by random chance or it exists as a "separate" plant from the beginning. All these wonderful phenomena in papaya plants speak about the miracles by the Creator. Amazing!

Farooq, we know that the flowering pattern on male and female papaya plants are different.. i was pretty much amazed when i saw the fruits on male papaya's flowering stalks.. the tree was a large one and previously only produced male flowers.. then on internet i read that it is not uncommon..

Farooq sb it happens.some times you can get some plants with both flowers.
