Re: questions about fruits
Hi at first you have to select what is right for your area. Then you will have to select the right variety.Mango Sensation is a nice dwarf variety well suited to home culture. In cetrus don,t go for oranges like Red or Ruby blood.Oranges don,t do in canal irrigated areas.instead plant Kinow. In Kinow the variety from Bhalwal is the top class.Grow the golden grafted Lokat.
Guava must be a good choice for you.Another thing you can try is Pear. Pear is well suited where canal irrigation is common.Try Peaches like Early Grand & 369 varities which are low chilled varieties. Here in Peshawar & Mardan areas these varieties are grown widely.Other need more chilling hours so are not for us.Those are some 42 varieties which are grown in Swat. Avoid plum & Apricot at all cost.

I dont know how will Kinow perform at Karachi, but some fruits like Sharifa, Cheeko, coconuts & papya will perform great at Karachi.Mango, Banana & Jack fruit also will perform so good at Karachi.

Re: questions about fruits
I already have Sharifa, Cheeko,Coconuts and magoes(2 different types,i don't know their names though) and all of them are doing well and fruiting but my papya is female and doesn't have a flowering papaya so fruit drops. Have grown some smaller papaya plants from seeds. I have even bought Kinow,Malta,Grapefruit,Chakotra and Kaghzi lemon (all of them grafted) from nursery. They all have flowers and tiny fruits are also visible but many flowers have also dropped so will have to wait and check next year if they will be successful or not. I have Grapefruit at my other place and my neighbour also fruiting Grapefruit tree.

Re: questions about fruits
Its because Cetrus does not like high humidity.

Re: questions about fruits
Jack fruit, never seen or eaten it, is it good? if so then I'll try growing that as well. Also have guava tree but it is suffering from some problem and isn't producing quality fruit. Also have jamun tree. Some of my coconut trees are also suffering from some disease which is affecting its fruit production.

Imagine eating a tuti fruti gum, mix flavours of banana and pineapples, that is what jack fruit would taste likeS.Ahmed wrote:Jack fruit, never seen or eaten it, is it good? if so then I'll try growing that as well.
