Yup. You are right. small seedling like potonia, poppy etc will definitely behave as you explained. For such cases we usually have large numbers of seedling and we can sacrifice few(Most of the flattens seedling usually recover, some time surgical incision is necessary of some part of body to make healthy remaining body .Farhan Ahmed wrote:I think he means to say from side.....in more quantity. The problem is with smaller seeds and thus smaller new born seedlings, they are so small that anything other than spray flattens them.....and we must remember not all seeds germinate at once. its a process....then what to do
Else we should wait for the right time(when temperature is lowered and less watering is needed) for very small seeds.
As far as yet to germinate seeds are concerned. If the seeds are gently pressed in sowing media then light watering will not disturb / dislocate them but if the seeds are loosely spread on the surface then they will move and dislocate for sure with watering except spraying.

Re: Garden Log 2014-15
My experience .......100 % seed germination is not possible in SEP ... wait for colder days. Normally i remove the plastic cover after 48 hours max. when i see seeds are sprouting; afterwards, what rafique sahab has mentioned , "watering carefully from the container edges" is fine, even drenching is not an issue. Potting medium to be sterilized fungus free or else is a disaster for seedlings.

Re: Garden Log 2014-15
Anything that can go in ground, must be sown in situ. Factors such as seed size, vendors advice, poor response to transplanting etc should be given due importance.
Sowing seeds in situ
Prepare the ground well, finely rake it and remove any clumps or debris.
Dedicate one area for your ease
Level the ground and add a thin layers of sowing media for easy germination.
partition area and then label it
Water thoroughly through sprinkling
Sow seeds as per advice or as per the size of seed
Most in situ sown seeds require to be covered from top.
provide shade to protect from full mid day sun if sowing in Oct.
Dust coopex powder to keep pest away
water twice a day atleast
keep a close observation for moisture and pest especially once after a couple a days at night for snails/slugs
