BTW, I was just thinking if we could have one dedicated thread which should be made sticky and should only include pics of Roses with the names. We have quite a few threads describing rose IDs in here and there but it would be good if there is only one thread. it will greatly benefit people like me who is trying to learn more about roses

Re: Spring 2013.............
Thanks you @Umar,@KBW and @Khabbab.
There may be differences in ID but with discussion we can settle these things. After this effort a reference would be available. Same practice can be adopted for bulbs(amaryllis, lilies, irises ). It would be helpful for those not planting these and planning to do in future.
Regards
We can start a separate thread with heading of Roses With Description. All the members having some description about their grown varieties should upload with their real time image with description.KBW wrote: BTW, I was just thinking if we could have one dedicated thread which should be made sticky and should only include pics of Roses with the names. Re: Spring 2013.............
Absolutely agreed. Sometimes I see roses (mostly in pics) which have very similar looking flowers but a strikingly different name. Mostly, leaves, branches and shape of the plant are not visible in the pics. At least for a rose novice like me, it would be quite an education if learned members give their input and enumerate the differences in similar looking roses....all in one thread.rafique wrote:We can start a separate thread with heading of Roses With Description. @umar khan petunias proved good companions of roses too. Roses grown very well along with petunias. In the other bed i planted antirrhinum and stock. antirrhinum and stock did not let roses to grow well. the roses in that bed are really weak compared to other ones.

Other plants are on full blooms and these are struggling for survival.

Re: Spring 2013.............
What i have observed is that when you mass plant/plant closer than recommended distances for a fuller look, individual plants suffer in terms of health as they are competing. But that is a compromise that one has to do sometimes for two reasons. Firstly fuller look and if space is less. Petunia might have proved better as it is lower in height thereby enabling enough sunlight to roses. Soil's potential is great and is not a limiting factor to growth if planted closely(especially if it has been fertilized). It is the sunlight which is the limiting factor....
Another thing that i have observed is that when you plant closer, plants tend to grow taller searching for sunlight. I think the rose in picture is doing same.....As you have removed other plants Insha Allah it will soon catchup.

Agreed with your observation. Very nicely explained. Here light factor which you mentioned is more prominent as the roses were densely covered with other plants from all sides and were not getting enough light and air.farhan137 wrote:What i have observed is that when you mass plant/plant closer than recommended distances for a fuller look, individual plants suffer in terms of health as they are competing. Now i should avoid tall annuals to plant with roses.
For me petunia, aster(less dense plants),dianthus, and verbena proved well.
