Lilies

One of my favourite flowers is blooming in my garden and I really love it!!!!
Few more colours are in the queue and I will keep everyone updated time to
time with new blooms and colours.
I always forgot to tell, these are in UK and InshAllah soon I will post my
Pakistan collection.
















I tried to use photobucket this time dont know if did properly or not and I hope you
will enjoy the pics and my lily flowers its such a treat for all lily or tuber lovers

Cute, very cute but please do tell us after they are shifted to Pakistan (arid zone) from UK (somewhere between temperate and frigid), all your experiences of how you made them survive here. Please pretty please, it will really increase our knowledges and give me hope if i bring the living stones from the Arctic circle and make them flower here. Love those.

Thank you for appreciating KAM, I’m looking forward to bring them home
and optimistic about their success because of couple of reasons.

The temperature I’m experiencing here is not so cold because I live in
London and its south of UK, but the weather is quite hard and miserable
up north. Nowadays the temperature is around 25 to 30 I think it’s more
or less like Abbottabad or Galiat and another reason for optimism is that
last time I brought Daffodils and they bloomed successfully with little or
no care, as far as I know we do have lilies, tulips and Daffodils In Pakistan
and specially in the temperature like RWP/ISL I hope they will do good but
a little risk for Lahore and Karachi even though Khabbab did Lily in Lahore
(and if can add his experience in this thread then it will be a great help for
all of us ) I think the only precaution is to keep them safe from blazing heat
in summer though it’s a sun loving plant but we can put it in East direction
so that it can get morning sun but not afternoon, check the below link of
Khabbab’s experience and InshAllah I will keep you updated with my experience
as well, I’m bringing some more plants and verities as well but the only problem
is that I have no one to take care of my plants afterwards when I will leave
again because its only me with green finger at my home and my mali got his
own school of thought sometimes it help and sometimes not and at the end
of the day my plants live at Allah Tawakal

Your are right Hamad, Weather is hot in Lahore and Islamabad. These lilies need only morning sun light and if we expose them to sun all the day then plant may burnout.
So for beautiful blooms we should follow the Hamad's instructions.
Last year I bought two bulbs of crown Imperial lillies from Germany, yellow one bloomed successfully but orange one showed foliage only. So weather and proper care is very important for growing lilies in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.

Yes quite true but you cant just shift and plant. You will have to look or design a ecological niche first for them. So get them ready for storage until you find the right spot. As to the equation of morning sun, with either East or West open you will have to look for a house that faces the morning sun(true for Islamabad). This city is planed along the grid system.
Weisa those houses and mountain slopes which face the morning sun you will always find green But houses and mountains facing the mid day sun, no good. Mine does and i have been trying to improve the micro climate for the last three years. No Lilies or bulbs here. This heat wave polished of my Clavias. May they rest in peace. Just hope that maybe the bulbs survived under ground.

keep the orange lily with you and plant it next time I hope it will bloom some times and some types bloom late or take some time like year, two or could be any time
are you keeping the corm in pot or storing at some other place? and in one of your post I have seen your day lilies they are beautiful, are they in Islamabad or back home
any chance of exchange or something

you are right I do agree with you, if you have sun facing garden then you can keep your such plants in pots and put them in the back if do have some space of your porch
or any other semi sun area

Has anyone grown them over few years?
I tried failed,gave up and again planted some last year,they usually die in rainy season. If they do that would be the end. Day lilies are a better (much better) option.

You are right but every plant has its own place in the garden and to grow these lilies there are some precaution that you need to take

very first and very important is they require very very good draining
medium and for that its best to keep them in pots with some sand in
it and as you said your lilies died in rainy season then it might be
because of draining issue if they were exposed to rain because its
corm is very sensitive and can easily get rotted because of excessive
water logging and its very clear that it’s not a good idea to put them
in bed

secondly in their dormant season their root remain alive so
if you dig them up and store them without any soil they will die for that
there are two solutions one is that you can get a breathing bag add a
little compost in it and put your bulbs to keep them for fall and the
other way is to dig them up in such a way that their roots will remain
in soil and they will be exposed

the most important thing to remember
is that they need to be planted at the deepest level among tuber family
even deeper than narcissus again it’s because of the sensitive nature of
the corm if you are planting it in a pot then it should be more than half
way deep in the pot because its corm can’t resist heat

Asciatic lilies are planted deep because they have two type of roots, below the bulb on disc and above the bulb on stem.
I indulge in growing plants that do not require special care.
