Plant Lover Reborn!!

Post by KBW »

Just less than a month back (after a pretty long self imposed exile from the gardening world) I realised that I need to have plants in my home. Rest was done by Gardening Pakistan.... and here I am.

I have started with planting of few seasonal flowers. Though I got fairly large size plants but I know I am a bit late and may not get the best bloom. It gets quite hot in Okara by the end Mar. I have also planted a few palms and roses.

Sharing pics of few container arrangements which have always been my favourite and once, I had a good collection of such arrangement in my house. Simple arrangements with inexpensive plants.

A bunch of Gerberas, dwarf Day Lillies, Asparagus, Chlorophytum, Gazania and few grasses. All arrangements basically follow the same theme here. They have just been planted and I hope that after a month when they fill up the container, they will look nice.

Image
I love Aquilegia vulgaris. This is a dwarf variety and I will have to wait to see the flowers which are likely to be blue and pink. Planted yesterday.

Image
A bunch of Chlorophytums, variegated Mesembryanthemum and a lonely cactus amongst few small rocks. They all need less water. Planted today and I am hoping that within a couple of months, they should grow up well to fill the container.

Image
Epipremnum aureum and Hoya carnosa for the shaded wall.

Hanging baskets which I wouldn't mind if they dry out for a while. Hanging shoots of Chlorophytum and button Mesembryanthemum should look nice I presume. Just done an hour earlier :)

First 4 pictures nothing short of abstract art. Very creative and beautifully done. It appears as you have miniaturize landscape.

When do you expect Aqueligia to bloom? i am also growing it and want to know would it bloom any sooner??????

Good to know that Gardening Pakistan is doing a Good Job!

Gerberas are amongst my favourite and I have got quite a few of them including few very rare varieties. Some of them (the ordinary ones) have started flowering. Just a few pics to share.....

These arrangements are for the shaded verandah and walls. I am working on lawn landscaping which will take a few days. I am already late and have to cut short the things otherwise I might endup wasting a few plants.

As for Aqueligia, I have my fingers crossed as it suddenly gets quite hot in Okara which is not good for aqueligias. But I like their leaf texture as well. I have tried to replicate their natural habitat. They have been planted in a mix of 75% leaf mould, 25 % bhal with a few rocks placed over the medium. Only a shallow flowing stream (jharna) nearby is missing.

Thanks rabia. I have better Gerberas which have yet not flowered. I will post pics when they are in bloom. Gerberas thrive better in full sun in cooler areas like Islamabad and Abbotabad, however, in a hot area like Okara they do best in dappled shade. A place where they get good early morning sun but after midday, they are in shade. Due to alkaline soil in Okara which has a pH of 9, one has to be careful in plantation and it's better to replace the soil with a mix of good quality bhal and leaf mould. I use a 50/50 mix. Top quality drainage is very important. :)

Waiting keenly to see more of your gerberas :) .
Your arrangements predict your garden landscape is going to be as good, waiting for the pictures as it gets completed.

KBW,what a pleasure to see your plants arrangement & the flowers.Your work reflects great taste.
If these are ordinary Gerberas-though even these are extra ordinary for me,what are 'better" ones going to be? Eagerly awaiting.

@rabia and munir
Thanks for your kind comments. :)

Today a few more Gerberas bloomed.

Image
I like this lemon yellow colour with black eye. A clump of 5 or more flowers would look nice... isn't it?

Image
Another nice colour though it's an old variety.

Image
This is the best colour bi-far, an orangish yellow. Thanks to mali baba who watered this one so carelessly that half of it is covered with silt. But next one is in the the line.

Image
This was a gorgeous double in light Salmon Pink. Thanks to mali baba again who watered the area carelessly, spoiling this flower too. :(
