I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as an Amaltas tree.

An Amaltas tree whose hungry mouth is pressed
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;

Some powerfull yet passive emotions here, Hey what is this nonsense anyway ?? - Empowered ignorance, apathy or internalising of impossible happiness?? Here are some quotes to make one think.

Ifzal Sb - while we cannot force govt to start with "best village of Pakistan" competition, we can start a small, like we can start to have clean and "green" environment in our houses, streets, colonies, office/ business areas, etc. I have seen people in my street encouraged by my little interest in gardening and have started to have few plants in their houses. In fact one lady from my street came to me other day with couple of plants saying that she was leaving for Lahore and that his son was not likely to take care of those plants and she wanted to gift those plants to me. She also informed me that she liked my interest in gardening and that she was very impressed with how I have kept my lawn etc.
So we may start with our own houses, streets, colonies, office/business areas, etc, people will start to join us, slowly but surely..
Gardening Pakistan is one example of such efforts .. I, for one, was motivated by this forum and every now and then we have a new gardening lover adding to our family ..
Keep it up, Gardening Pakistan and its members ..

Javed sb, you have said a remarkable thing. Start good things on your own and little steps count.

Javed sahib that is exactly how it works in practise, when one improves ones garden or street outside others slowly but surely follow. With us Pakistanis its a well known trait anyway as we almost always follow one another.

Secondly when the environment around is improved by the community, social problems of graffiti, vandalism and crime are genuinely minimised. People take pride and visitors/travellers respect and appreciate it (generally)

Thirdly when a small area or district like this is improved, in particular the streets outside, the property value and residential desirability increases bringing with it real tangible economic and social benefits. People often buy up the worst, cheapest house on the street and improve it thus slowly but surely removing the anti social element.

If ever you pass a house and street to namaz/wedding and your clothes/shoes get filth or sewage you would blame the residents regardless of how nice their house or content be, however if you pass through a street then surely you wont curse but blessings instead if its clean dry and lined with amaltas trees.

As they say in Punjabi "puy puy sey thlaa ban jahta hey" Ou governments and administrators in Pakistan dont have the resources like in the uk for many social needs least of all beautification of the streets. little projects like yours which are important in their own right are noted and appreciated far more than perhaps you are made aware. (very often us Pakistanis are quick to criticize but slow to give credit)

Idealism Vs Realism

Ha ha ha Ifzal sb i am planting annuals on the road side for so many years.So many are missed & i plat new one thinking Akher kitne pude le jaen ge. But even then it hurts me. I bring seedlings from Islamabad & plant them. The other day you see some are missing.The same problem is at Islamabad.Every time i plant some annuals the very next week some are missing so the strong emotions are natural my dear.But still i keep on planting annuals Akher kitne chra ke leke jaen ge.
