Strange that they should refuse to handover the used coffee grounds which inevitably are going to be dumped in trash cans. Used coffee grounds are a good tonic for roses, palms and Gardenias and deter pests as well. Starbucks coffee give complimentary bags of used coffee grounds packed very nicely in kg packing and one may acquire as many...

I Would appreciate if you guys could post side by side pictures of one tissue culture gerbera and one non-tissue culture gerbera, for sake of difference between two. I assume the tissue culture one is tall stem gerbera.

Sir basically these used coffee grounds have substantial portions of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and copper. They can be applied to the soil as a conditioner by mulching it with the soil. In addition they are an environment friendly option to deter pests like ants, snails or slugs from damaging the plants. We often do not realize that at times we resort to excessive usage of fertilizers & pesticides which in the long run are highly damaging for our environment by contributing to pollution.

Generally these used coffee grounds are more suited for Roses, Palms especially Kungi Palms or Gardenias owning to their slightly acidic nature. Though Gerberas do not require the application of used coffee grounds but its application may help especially if a Gerbera or any other plant is getting attacked by slugs or ants as the smell of used coffee grounds is sufficient to repel pests.

It would hep Munir Sahib if you can post picture of the pests troubling your Gerberas.

Izhar its a very appealing colour and our local desi Gerberas look really nice if planted en-masse in a bed. Compared to the tissue culture Gerbera they multiply more rapidly and can be divided after 3-4 years. Here are some images of our local single gerberas planted en-masse.

Yes, i intent to plant it in a large pot... a fuller pot with 3-4 blooms will be a great addition... it has already multiplied and this pot has five plants.... another one is bright yellow which i had planted in a mixture of coffee grounds and soil, hope it likes the acidic medium and grow well...
