Canna

Post by mikhurram »

i feel Canna is a plant that has been neglected by many gardeners over the years. Extremely adaptable to our environment they come in various colours / sizes and multiply rapidly. Notable among the large varieties are President, Lucifer and Cleopatra varieties. If grown in a mass bed they give a terrific display and tend to bloom atleast 2-3 times in a year.

I agree it is under utilized. One problem is that the foliage burns and becomes ugly in the dry summer.

Burning of foliage is not a problem. Even if the foliage gets burned out they are replaced by new offshoots and bloom periodically at least twice or thrice in an year.

A new picture of Canna President along with Cleopatra and an unknown variety. Those planning to make a Canna border may consider putting Canna Cleopatra at the back, President in the middle and Canna Dwarf Tropical series F1 at the front.

You have earlier mentioned the height of Canna Dwarf Tropical series F1; what about the others to be planted in the rear & middle?
Also, what is the best time to plant these?
