Is Lawrencepur sand similar to Lasbela sand? I heard the LAsbela sand is the coarsest.

Haven't heard of lasbela sand. Lawrencepur sand is considered to be the most coarsest sand and due its coarseness fetches a premium price.

Beautiful Kniphofias. Internet info says that they come from South Africa. Surely Prof Kniphof has never been to Balochistan other wise he woild have seen them growing naturally in so many places. I have seen them growing naturally in valleys of Ziarat, Loralai and Qila Saif Ullah. Its a brilliant sight seeing thousands of them blooming at one time. Red and orange is the most common color though maroon/ yellow and white/yellow can also be seen in the valleys around Loe Nakan mountain in Central Zarghun range. There natural habitat in Pakistan is cold and dry moutains which get rains / snow during winters and there are few rains during summers. They remain burried under snow during winters when the temp drops down to - 20* c. This means during spring they have lot of moisture available to them in growing season. They grow naturally in stony soils which is full of stones of all sizes. Add the undulating nature of area and this means excellent drainage. No doubt nature provides us the best guidance.

Today i was surprised to see some buds emerging on my Kniphofia plant. I have 3 varieties and they tend to bloom in March.

This is day lily , khiphofia bud is completely different. Leaves are also thin if we compare these with kniphofia leaves.
I have observed mine closely and come to this point that these are day lily plants.

maybe the tag id is wrong. By March it will be clear which among the lot is Kniphofia or Daylily. Even if we presume it to be a daylily then buds at this time of the year are normally not seen on daylilies.

Just noticed in the morning that 2 plants having thinner & different leaves compared to the photo attached in the posts above and around 7 plants have leaves similar to ones in the photo. It can be assumed that the 2 plants with thinner leaves are definately Kniphofia while those with thicker leaves like the ones in the photo are of daylily. If this is the case then it means that i ended up distributing 3 certain Kniphofia plants. Sigh.
Hopefully the two remaining Kniphofia plants in my collection may flower in 2014 or 2015.
