Sandringham is the much-loved country retreat of Her Majesty The Queen, and has been the private home of four generations of British monarchs since 1862.
The house, set in 24 hectares of stunning gardens, is perhaps the most famous stately home in Norfolk and is at the heart of the 8,000-hectare Sandringham Estate, 240 hectares of which make up the woodland and heath of the Country Park.
Here are some photographs I have dug out of my archives. They were taken during a visit some years ago. Note how sections have been left for the wildflowers and feeding insects. Different shapes of trees have been used to create interest and contrast to the eye.

If you look closely you will notice that the trees are in the main laid out with different shapes, foliage and colour, each providing focal interest and providing a pleasant look to the eyes. The shades of dark and light greens, golds, burgundy's and blues all come together to create a painters palette of colour, form and structure.
The queen commissioned Sir Eric Savill to redesign the woodland areas around Sandringham and he did a marvellous job. In autumn the myriad of colours make the vista look like a firework display.
