Re: glads laying down
This happen when you plant too shallow, give glads the recommended depth as they can fell by their weight, also glads should be planted when night temp reaches 18C, before that it will promote rot , damage the corm
and a weaker plant which cannot stand by itself. Moreover give them a bigger pot and spacing so as the corm can grow as well. The pics are not clear but check if the base of plant stem is very thin? It will not flower and will fall ultimately

Re: glads laying down
Adnan is right.Glads flower very nice i used to plant at Bahawalpur & they flower every year from the same corms.the depth actuallu depends on the soil, plus they need staking.but you plants are still weaker.let me tell u night temps counts in success for any bulb or annual as Adnan already said for Glad its 18 C.
Another thing please post pictures in close ups.the pictures are not very clear.

Re: glads laying down
I plant them in Dec(check your local temp when they fall below 20c), they bloom in March and by end of May they became dormant, they can be left in the pot or removed and stored in cardboard box.
this can be applied to all summer flowering bulbs but for spring flowering bulbs temperature should reach below 15C and particularly for Hycinths/Tulips/Muscari it should be less than 10C when you plant them.Keeping in refrigerator prior to planting for a month or 2 also helps.

although Mr Izhar Told me before planting bulb that glads bulb must be planted under 2-3 inch down the soil.. i planted them in the soil in the way that its top was visible up the ground..
pot is also small..
now please help what should i do..
can replace pot now ??
can i put more soil around corms so that bulb should go 2-3 inch deep ???
please help.
i m converted to bulb sowing and gave up seed flowers..
i have iris, glads, paper white, ranuncolus, freassia,
now i don't want to loose these bulb plants..

Re: glads laying down
Dont worry, just give them support through staking... this happens to my plants in ground sometimes and place a heavy stone near their base as a support...

Re: glads laying down
last bit is a bit confusing because temperature could be below 20C at the start of winter and can also be at the end of winter so I hope you are talking about the end of winter specifically talking about Glads! and the rest early winter?Syed Adnan wrote:I plant them in Dec(check your local temp when they fall below 20c), they bloom in March and by end of May they became dormant, they can be left in the pot or removed and stored in cardboard box.

Re: glads laying down
Hycinths, muscari, narcissus, tulips to be kept in fridge for 2 months atleast, here i put them in fridge in oct start, iin jubail temp never reach min. 20 until Dec, when temp started to come down to min. 20 in the night , this is right time to plant glads, freesias, .At the start of jan temp reduce to further below 10 , this is the time to take bulbs from fridge hycinths etc. and put them in soil, so they will feel winter is over and spring is coming, afterwards temp here never reduced to below 7 or 6, blooms can be seen in Feb and march, the above can vary from place to place so temp to be kept in mind, in Feb temp started to rise again in night and reaches min 15 and above , here glads can be planted but in coming months as temp rises very fastly there blooms will be affected by high temp of April , may , the later one is applicable for Europe region that's why these bulbs are also called summer flowering
. Iam taking reference of minimum temp but people use average temp as well. These bulbs science can be studied by hit and trial and with experience.
