Problem with Alamanda Vine

Post by hasnain »

Hi,

I planted this Alamanda in July last year and it growed and bloomed well till December. During the extreme cold weather it dried and is still like these.
What i would like to know is that will it grow back or is it dead. My maali tells me that this is Karachi's plant and cannot tolerate cold weather and will grow back as the temperature increases.
Your kind feedback is awaited.

Thank You.

Regards,
Muhammad Hasnain

break any twig, if it is still green from inside then the vine will come back as soon as the temperature rises.. if it is brown or black then it may have died...

I believe this is a yellow wild Allamanda, with one the dried oblong leaves. More properly, it is Urechites but nursery men sell it as Allamanda/ because of its similar flowers to real ( far more expensive) Allamanda. I had this one and this vine never died even in wintersof Karachi.

What you can do is that you gently scrape the top and the bottom stems with your nails. If the wood is alive, it should be green, if it is dead wood all the way from top to bottom, then it may be worthwhile to chop it to the bottom without uprooting the plant. It is a pretty robust vine. If the roots have not been severely damaged by cold it should re-grow.
