What to Post

Macro Shot
Macro shot is extreme close-up photography, usually of small subjects, in which the size of the subject in the photograph is greater than life size.In this category you are expected to post close-up pictures of Flowers, flower Buds etc. Focus of the photograph should be on the sole subject of your image with little or NO visibility of surrounding. You can also use cropping to remove any unwanted part of the photograph. In layman, key to good macro shot is good close up/ focus and selection of best angle of your subject.

Hi to all,

thank you for invitation, so I will give it a try.

Entry One
Firstly you'll see the flower bottom of the perennial Euphorbia griffithii. This is en endemic flower and a hardy perennial of the Himalayan and you can find it in borders of properties or anywhere else. It likes semi-shade but grows also in bright sunlight. Even that it is always described to be planted in a slightly humid and peat soil (the plant likes slight acid soil), I found that it supports full sun and dry soil very good.
The dark greenish leaves turned into a very strong orange and yellow colour that gives you some "fire" in your shade garden, if you have shade. In full or semi shade the plant is more expressive than in full sun because the colours are shining stronger. The time of flowering is very long, here in my garden, from June to November. When the flower produces its seedpods, then you may protect them with, for example, teabags, because otherwise the birds eat them. In winter, the plant disappear completely and comes back, of sure, next spring, but lately.

If you want them being not too invasive from their root, then imprison the plant in a large pot before planting it in your garden.

.... and here Paeonia mascula

Next flower shows the nearly opening bud of Paeonia Mascula, Perennial plant native to France, Algeria and Russia . The flower cup of the single flower is for me very elegant and fine. I had this plant growing from seeds and it was flowering for the first time. Therefore I cannot say if it is a fragrant flower, but perhaps in hot climates like yours, it could be. This peony likes semi shade and flowers quite longer there than in full sun. Same soil slightly acid is required. I never found problems on all my peonies.
When the flower is finished you can wait several months for obtaining the seeds, if she will do so, and then you'll sow them directly in your seed medium. The seeds need a cold period, so you could put them for 2 or 3 month in your fridge (bag for vegetables). Perhaps the seeds need two winters before sprouting, but all this is only the experience from your own garden and your own climate.
When planting, don't forget the drainage !

Muscari armeniacum
Muscari armeniacum is a bulbous plant of the genus Muscari with basal, simple leaves and short, flowering stems. It is one of a number of species and genera known as Grape Hyacinth, in this case Armenian Grape Hyacinth.The flowers are purple, blue (with a white fringe), or white and the plants are usually 15 centimeters (6 in) tall. M. armeniacum blooms in mid-Spring (April or May in the Northern Hemisphere) for 3-4 weeks. Some selections are fragrant. Established bulbs leaf in the autumn.

Thunbergia alata
Thunbergia alata, commonly called Black-eyed Susan vine, is a herbaceous perennial climbing plant species in the Acanthaceae family. It is native to Eastern Africa, and has been naturalized in other parts of the world. It is found in Cerrado vegetation of Brazil and Hawaii, along with eastern Australia and the southern USA in the states of Texas and Florida.

It is grown as an ornamental plant in gardens and in hanging baskets. The name 'Black-eyed Susan' is thought to have come from a character that figures in many traditional ballads and songs. In the Ballad of Black-eyed Susan by John Gay, Susan goes aboard a ship in-dock to ask the sailors, where her lover Sweet William has gone. Black-eyed Susan is also a name given to another species of flowers - Rudbeckia.

Water hyacinth
Water hyacinth is a free-floating perennial aquatic plant(or hydrophyte) native to tropical and sub-tropical South America. With broad, thick, glossy, ovate leaves, water hyacinth may rise above the surface of the water as much as 1 meter in height. The leaves are 10–20 cm across, and float above the water surface. They have long, spongy and bulbous stalks. The feathery, freely hanging roots are purple-black. An erect stalk supports a single spike of 8-15 conspicuously attractive flowers, mostly lavender to pink in colour with six petals. When not in bloom, water hyacinth may be mistaken for frog's-bit (Limnobium spongia).

One of the fastest growing plants known, water hyacinth reproduces primarily by way of runners or stolons, which eventually form daughter plants. Each plant can produce thousands of seeds each year, and these seeds can remain viable for more than 28 years. The common water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) are vigorous growers known to double their population in two weeks.

Secondly this is a gardening competition based on photography, i hope you had some gardening effort involved as well other than photography. This point is only for advice.

Mesembryanthemum
Mesembryanthemum originate from Southern Africa and Western Asia and are a genus of succulent annual and biennial flowering gardening plants. Ideal for edges of borders and general flower beds. Very effective in rockeries and in dry stone walls. They are perfect for growing in containers, on their own or with other flowering or foliage plants.They are extremely popular plants and can be found growing in many gardens.
