Salaam to all my fellow gardners and enthusiasts
May I thank the founder members and moderators for facilitating such a fine website. I know it is hardwork but remember you have provided an excellent information resource
My name is Ifzal I am in my mid fifties an UK born and bred, I am a retired UK police officer and have had a lifelong interest in gardening. In the UK I have grown many fine plants and tended my gardens over the decades. I have built up an extensive personal knowledge of plants, gardening techniques and have seen fashions come and go. I have a large library of gardening books some dating back to the time of the British in india which provide fascinating long lost techniques used by peasent farmers in order to maintain crops.
We have cultivational family lands in Jhelum, Gujrat and Pahlia. I have recently completed a new all mod cons villa which i am hopeful will provide inspiration and desire for my children and grandchildren to visit the motherland. It is to this end I have joined this forum in order to increase my knowledge of gardening in Pakistan.
There are many native plants whose latin/common names I am still unaware of for example the maroon/red coloured small (5/6inch high ) plant used to frame borders, locally called nantra or the maroon coloured taller shrub which is cut into hedge shapes similar to the golden yellow Granta.
I am hoping to learn from fellow gardeners in order to develop our small garden that surrounds the villa. currently i have laid it out to lawn with borders around it. My vision is to develop it into a sort of topiary style garden with ficus, euphorbia, marva and conifers all neatly trimmed into geometric shapes. There will also be space for a few beds of flowers, i am thinking maybe amaryliss or dahlia
thank you in advance for any tips or inspiration you can provide
Salaam from Jhelum & UK
