Re: Plant Database Project
Dear friends, as we are compiling the database for garden plants, just wanted a add a reminder for the genus and species entry in the database. That entry is redundant.
A plant's name in Latin consists of two parts: When we say Rosa indica, for the common red rose, then by definition of the first part is the genus of the plant and the second part indica is an epithet (a sort of a characterizing word). So Rosa is a genus and indica simply tells that it is a "Rose of India".
The whole name Rosa indica itself a species.
So whatever Latin name you guys choose, either leave the genus and species entry blank, or enter the same name which you chose for your plant. I noted that we are entering either synonyms in the genus or species.
You have to search the family name. In google, enter the Latin name in plant + family, and you should get the Plant family. If it is too inconvenient, leave the entry.
Regards,
Farooq

Re: Plant Database Project
It think it will be convenient, if you format along the way you submit an entry. Because it will be lot of work if someone else has to format your data. I wasn't sure how to use Rafiq sahab's table to make a NEW entry. but then I followed his instructions to make an new entry (see previous posts) by simply bolding and removing extra spaces.Tahir Khan wrote:Thank you, one query though... should we use the template made by rafique sb or should we post as we please and then someone can edit the data and paste it in the table ??
May be they can clarify.
