Other Details
Mesembryanthemum originate from Southern Africa and Western Asia and are a genus of succulent annual flowering gardening plants. It is a low-growing succulent annual growing to 25 cm (10 in), and much cultivated for its iridescent, many-petalled, daisy-like blooms in shades of white, yellow, orange, cream, pink and crimson. In temperate areas it must be grown as a half-hardy annual, and lends itself to mass plantings or as edging plants in summer bedding schemes in parks and gardens. It is still widely referenced under its former name, Mesembryanthemum criniflorum.
They are extremely popular plants and can be found growing in many gardens.
A low growing plant with long lasting flowers usually grown as half hardy annuals.Livingston Daisies are a welcome spot of color in spring.
Mesembry is earliest to bloom in spring. It has a very short season unless deadheaded daily. It is very difficult to deadhead individual flowers, for the reason they are small plants and flower profusely. Dead head at around 4pm when flowers are still open. This will distinguish faded flowers from new buds as both have a slight difference. Flower life is max 2 days...
They are drought tolerant as well as tolerate water logging.
They make a mounding shape. They should be spaced at a distance of around 6 inches. However they will accept closer planting as well.
Flowers will remain close on Cloudy Days.
Flower open at around 11 am and close at 4-5 Pm.
