Re: Project Spring 2014
Strangely temperatures are refusing to go down throughout the country. Highs of 35s, but with humidity feels like temperatures are around 37-39 C. I remember very vividly, last year this time it was much cooler and all sowing activities could have been easily undertaken.
Nothing is more heart warming then the sight of healthy seedlings for me ......Cosmos cosimo and Double click.

Bassera update

Most of the seeds sown are showing positive germination even in hot weather. There progress is much better in compost rather than sand.

It is pertinent to note that humidity is high..which is favorable. Avoid over-watering, just mist your seeds. Make use of plastic covers.

Re: Project Spring 2014
"Snail Alert"
Protect your seedlings & Plants
If one is sowing in situ and otherwise also for other plants.....Look out for snails now a days especially if you find damaged seedlings in the morning.
Best way to handle.
Look for sheltered/hiding places and you will find snails/shells/slugs.
You can place a card board/cap into a border and snails will sneak into it before dawn, from where they can be relocated/destroyed.
At night inspect you borders/sowing areas with torch. If your garden is infested. You will find many. Destroy with hand/tool/stone.
Soon as temperatures drop below 15 C. Snails will hibernate, only to reappear in spring.
Other control methods.
Spread/sprinkle salt/sand/crushed egg shells over the border/around the plant
Make a boundary with copper strips
