There are three categories of gardeners in this forum
DIY; Do It Yourself without any help (usually on a small scale)
DP, Director Producer, having;
Part times help (most)
Full times help (a few)
There is a saying; Shok Da Koi Mool Nai
Any way it is wiser to save where ever you can without compromising the Quality.
For DIY I feel they should get seedlings from a reliable nursery unless they want to experience the excitement, the joy and despair of success/failure of germination.
For the other two categories the Lion’s share of cost goes to Mali, 25-40 Thousand per year for the part time and about 120000 for a full time Mali.
Saving from plants, seeds, fertilisers, compost or other soil amenders is being penny wise pound foolish.

I'm a DIY person- and as you said it is small scale, enough to keep me occupied.
Annuals etc I grow from seeds. The major costs to me seem to be when acquiring new plants, and big sized pots. Although it is a self-sustaining hobby (I sell the extra ones), it certainly is very rewarding. I couldn't agree more: Shauk ka koi mol nahi.

I am also DIY person. I generally do not buy seedlings from nurseries and Experiments the taste of sowing seeds but not those plants which cannot be germinated. As a new gardener I want to have all the plants but considering that it will be hard to keep them and considering the Hard work I refuse this Idea and refuge of Mali will not be available for a 18 year old like me...

Gardening is a pleasure specially for DIY gardener, younger the age better it is, It is an addiction that I recommend for all.
