Clivia bulbs
Twenty different varieties of Clivia are being offered, I like the plant but my past experience was not good. The plant and seedlings I got from Islamabad did not last a year. It may have been my bad husbandry so I am requesting from Lahore members for their experience.
Anyone who has successfully grown Clivia for 3-5 years?

Re: Clivia bulbs
Tried once but could not get blooms out of it next year. It is not a plant which you can plant and forget, a challenging plant. I have seen its fleshy roots, even little over-watering will damage it. I read somewhere, it is better in a pot bound state than in soil bed.

Re: Clivia bulbs
Clivia is a difficult plant in warm climate... I have seen it thriving at Lalazar nursery ... even my plant from chanandin was going great in last winters but declined in summers miserably, its still alive (on its aakhri sansain)... now I have two seedlings (age 8 months approx.) grown from seeds from a gardening mate in USA... so far they are doing nicely...

Re: Clivia bulbs
Sir, my friend in USA suggested me to keep them inside the house during summers as they can grow happily even in the least lighten area.. I'll be keeping these besides my fish tank as a 25 watt energy saver remains on for the whole day daily.. lets hope they survive there...

Re: Clivia bulbs
There are a few people in Lahore who are growing these. In Islamabad, clivias do very well.As for Lahore, I have mixed response from diffrent people. Many people showed me their plants which had spent atleast 6 years in Lahore, flowering every year. The trick is to plant them in shade.DONOT plant them in sun as they dont require sun to flower.Khalid Qadeer,an expert gardener in Model town has a good collection and many old plants.Another friend of brig arif in Canal view that I know grows them in full shade.

Re: Clivia bulbs
I think growing them in shade is one of many factors. Probably the bulbs grown successfully by gardeners of lahore are not bought locally. The local clivia bulbs are mostly those which are at the bottom of quality graph. but one thing is for sure, this plant is killed by most gardeners due to over watering as compared to under watering.
