Re: My rooftop container garden
My 900-1000 sft rooftop needed three pickup loads-that's approx. 33-35 50-kg sugar bags full in volume.
The supplier I mentioned in an earlier post.
His name is Patras. His story is that he is a Christian whose dad was a landscape worker with PHA. Patras himself builds rockeries. That is where he came across pumice-he obviously doesn't know the name. Patras says that at some nullah near Bahria town the denim factories dump this pumice stone. He collects them and sells at 4000 per pick up load. The money is all for his work. He lives near Jinnah hospital and the stones can be gotten in the 50-kg bags---10 bags for 3000 (if available).
The denim factories use 4-5cm dia pumice stones for stone washing to fade the denim. I don't know at what dia or after how many cycles do they dump it.
The long story is told to share the exact details, to clarify that Patras only collects the dump and doesn't have a continuous supply chain, and that there is a possibility that the denim factories can be approached directly to obtain the stone.
Although pumice is mined in Pakistan near chaghi and there are suppliers selling it on alibaba.com but I do not know any other place selling it.
There is one nursery in
Model town. Haji Imdad Hussai who also gets pumice from Patras and sells the pick up load for 8-10 k.
