poor Leechi growth in Chak Shezad, Islamabad
Dear All, I am a new member and seek your expert opinion on the subject. I live at a farm in area Chak Shezad in Islamabad, and am trying to grow Leechi but have so far not been successful. for the last three years I plant Leechi trees and they either whither away or show extremely slow rate of growth. I have protected them from sun and cold, provided frequent watering, and the soil is rich as it takes all other plants very well. I am at my wits end as far as leechi is concerned. any help/////

Lychee not growing in Isloo? The only reason i know of, it is very temperamental. Hates being disturbed or roots tampered with.
Have you pulled out any and seen what the condition of the roots were?
Off topic but essential. Manure in the state we get it is of no use to plants. Herbivorous animals have a very inefficient digestive system. They only digest about 15%(check on net) the rest is undigested plant material. To be converted into micro nutrients it has to go through the tummies of insects, worms, etc then again excreted. Now its converted into micro nutrients.
One of the insects which love raw manure are termites. Termites are epidemic in Isloo. Lychee roots are sweet not like keekar or daregh or neem and termites love sweet roots. Maybe you are giving them to much tender loving care which means manure also.
Let the nursery walla plant them under a one year guarantee. Let him find out the reason. You just sit tight and watch.
As to the manure, let it sit idle in a pile in a corner. Get it turned over every two weeks. Let it age and allow the insects to do their magic away from your plants. When it has broken down and you get the sweet earthy smell then apply it. Kanjoos application but more frequent would be better.
Regards.

Never use fresh manure as Masud sb already told you.another thing i grow lyche & we do not protect it from sun or from frost.its a very hardy plant.the only thing its very slow grower.always use a year old cow manure.fresh manure burns the plants.it also attracts termites, which kills the plant.another thing very interesting that Korean grass even attract termites.now its monsoon feed your plant with NPK 20,20,20 & old manure if its not a fruiting plant.BUT REMEMBER FEEDING DEPENDS UPON THE AGE OF THE PLANT.We feed our 20 years old plants with 2kg NPK.Lyeche will will fruit in 7th year.
