Growing Plumeria at Islamabad/Mardan

i have tried some years back growing Plumeria some years back.i planted 2 times but failed to grow it.i have planted it with a wall to save it from frost,also covered under plastic sheets.but i was failed to save it.the tips got rot.i have seen a tree in Peshawar.i don,t know what mistake i m making year after year.please don,t tell me to plant it in pots,i want it in open ground.i m only interested in the original wild white plumeria with round leaves.

Plumeria will not survive cold temperatures, hence the tip rot. Secondly, it doesn't like low drainage clayey soils. I also lost some dear plants like Pandanus during transportation from Karachi to Islamabad (kewra, which I am looking for 10 years.). It didn't survive the winter.

try planting a mature specimen if you want to risk it. Amend the soil by mixing it with maybe 50% coarse sand for better drainage. Totally stop watering the plant or the area before winter and resume only when the warmth arrives. If there are other plumeria trees in the area are doing well it must be a drainage or watering problem with your trees.

If any one is willing to call it Champa or Frangipani, yes there are. From what i know of Champa and Frangipani they love being treated like cactus but when you call it Plumera then you forget what it actually is. Must be the name.

Try a South facing wall, in winter paint the wall black or hang a black sheet but a South facing wall is enough. Free draining, sandy soil, get a three foot dia well concrete ring and fill it with free draining media so that there is no chance of water logging at crown and once it starts growing and you are comfortable, then please forget watering it. South facing wall should be hot enough in winter. Try protecting it from the dry desiccating wind of winter so for that it would be best to plant it at a corner where two walls meet. South facing and corner should be warm enough in winter. Put a organic mulch layer(khad) over root system to provide heat of decomposition to roots in winter.

yes exactly Frangipani.i love this tropical so much but in winter its tips get rot.the whole plant dies.please give some tips growing it at Islamabad or Mardan.i want the wild white type.

I cosider it most care free plant in the ground, in pot you have to regulate the water.


No other plant matches its fragrance and duration of blooming.
