Need to re-introduce myself.
I think I introduced myself on the last forum the day it shut down and this one came up. I thought it decent to re-introduce myself. I live in Lahore and am a doctor, 38 years old. When I was renovating the house I also decided to improve the lawn. I'm a bit of a type A personality so needed to know which grass to put, how it would grow, how much fertilizer it needed, how it would perform in sun or shade etc (kind of like working on a patient
). Similarly the few hundred yards or kiyari's posed another adventure. I suddenly realised how interesting gardening is and since the past few months I have been able to think of little else in terms of recreation. My father always loved gardening but I dont know why I never developed an interest. When I read up and investigated I realised it was a world in itself, much like any other complex subject you need to grasp and how it opens up it's secrets as you develve deeper. I am so happy to have a gardening forum like this in Pakistan. Everyone here is great and very helpful. My current passion is fragrant roses, fragrant shurbs and fragrant vines. I'm bringing several bare root and own root roses from the USA soon and inshallah it will be an interesting summer after a wonderful spring in Lahore

You can still get them in the US. Usually till end of May. Mine are still dormant and I'm keeping them that way in the fridge till I arrive in Lahore
Re: Need to re-introduce myself.
Aoa AYKHAN if you can wait untill nov it will be better.do not plant new roses until the summer ends.refrigerator is artificial thing, wait for the right time.

Re: Need to re-introduce myself.
Umar you are absolutely right. The best time to plant the roses would be when the heat goes down. However, I guess we all have to make some compromises! I wanted some quality David Austin roses and Hybrid Teas which I could only find in the US from where I return shortly back to Lahore. Now I will have to plant them. Half the roses are not bare root but own root cuttings about 6-12 inches. I plan to put them in all into pots till the bare root roses wake up from dormancy, probably a week or two. They will be in filtered light till they form a good root system and then I will gradually move them into incresing amounts of sunlight. I will not put them in the ground till the fall most likely.

You can definitely have some buds when the plants are ready.
